RENFREW manager Colin Clark has welcomed the addition of ex-player Ryan Borris to his coaching staff.

Former midfielder Borris racked up 159 senior appearances in a career that saw him play for clubs such as Raith Rovers, Ayr United and Dumbarton.

However, he retired recently, at the age of 41, after struggling with injury.
Borris, who signed for Renfrew in 2018, now joins Clark and fellow coaches Jimmy Quigley and Iain Nicolson in the dugout.

Clark revealed he had been keen to strengthen his backroom staff following the departure of right-hand man Martin Ferry last year.

He told Gazette Sport: “Ryan is more than capable. He has great experience and is great to have about the place.

“It was always the intention to add to the coaching staff and I had an idea that, if Ryan’s injury wasn’t clearing up, then he could come in.”

Renfrew kicked off their pre-season campaign on Saturday with a 2-1 win against Kilbirnie Ladeside at Valefield Park, with Ciaran Diver scoring both goals for the visitors.

Clark’s team had been due to take on Glenvale this Saturday but the game has been postponed, so he now hopes to line up different opponents.

Matches against Troon and Neilston will round off Renfrew’s pre-season friendlies ahead of the competitive action getting underway on July 17.

Johnstone Burgh, meanwhile, continued their intense programme of pre-season fixtures by welcoming Premier Division champions Auchinleck Talbot to Keanie Park on Saturday.

The Ayrshire side ran out 3-0 winners but it was a useful exercise for Burgh as they prepare for the new West of Scotland Football League campaign.

Talbot took the lead when Keir Samson converted from close range and they stretched their advantage just before the hour mark as Graham Wilson found the net from inside the six-yard box.

The final goal arrived after 77 minutes, when Corey Pearson’s cross looped into the top corner of the Burgh net.

Jamie McKim’s men are back in action this Saturday as they welcome big-spending Darvel to Johnstone, with 250 fans able to attend the friendly at Keanie Park.

Both Renfrew and Burgh will discover their fixtures for this season on Friday, with the West of Scotland Football League set to make the announcement at 7pm.
