RENFREW manager Jimmy Quigley has urged his side not to rely on Scott Morton and Ciaran Diver to be the only ones to find the net this season.

The partnership bossed the scoring charts for the Frew last season as they netted 54 goals between them but the likes of Dom Innes and David McKenna have stepped up to the plate in recent weeks.

Renfrew couldn’t ask for a better start as they top the Second Division of the West of Scotland Football League with four wins from four, and Quigley believes the best of his side is yet to come after an impressive showing at Ardeer last weekend.

Speaking to Gazette Sport, he said: “Without being at the top of our game I’m happy with how things are going.

“The sign of a good team is when they are winning without playing particularly well so I’m pretty delighted with how the start has gone.

“The clean sheet was pleasing against Ardeer because it’s a really tough place to go, especially after getting a man sent off after 20 minutes.

“If we had won by four or five they couldn’t have had any complaints because the their ‘keeper made a couple of great saves and we defended really well and hit them on the break.

“There’s always goals in Scott and Ciaran when they hit the ground running. Ciaran has been injured for a while and Scott is just getting himself up to top fitness as well.

“We need more goals around the park this year.

“Dom Innes has started this season on fire, up until the Ardeer game he had contributed to every goal we had scored – he had either scored it or set it up. He’s started really well which is pleasing.”

No games took place in the WoSFL or its affiliated cup competitions at the weekend as a sign of respect after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, but action will resume this weekend as Renfrew face Forth Wanderers – and Quigley is set on another 100 per cent month for his troops.

He said: “Forth is a tough place to go so I’m glad to get a home game against them first and have a look at them.

“The target this month was to try and get six points in the league and through in both rounds of the cup. Hopefully three points on Saturday will set us up for the cup the following week.”

Kick-off at New Western Park on Saturday is at 2pm.

Elsewhere, Johnstone Burgh face St Roch’s at James McGrory Park with the game also getting under way at 2pm.
