Johnstone Burgh manager Jamie McKim admits efforts to reshape his squad are a work in progress.

McKim and his players will be reunited this Saturday for the start of pre-season.

A number of new arrivals will be in place as Burgh target promotion from the First Division of the West of Scotland Football League.

However, with 13 players leaving Keanie Park this summer, McKim concedes there is still plenty of work to be done in the transfer market.

He told Gazette Sport: “We’ve not finished our squad yet and probably have another four or five to recruit but we’ll be ready to go for the start of pre-season this Saturday.

“It’s busy but it will be exciting when we have the rest of the squad together and everything is confirmed.

“It’s been this way every year but this is the last time I want to be in this scenario of sometimes doing deals at the last minute.

“I’d like to think we’re now at a stage as a club where we can have our squad sorted a lot earlier and can afford to have a break and have things ticking over behind the scenes.

“I’m in a better position and I’ve got better selling points than I have ever had before. We’re more ambitious, so it’s certainly exciting and it’s good times ahead.”

Burgh have already recruited former Scotland star Graham Dorrans, as well as Del Esplin, Dale Simeon and Ross McKenzie, this summer and McKim is confident about the positive impact they will have.

He said: “Dale was in our conference the year before last, when he won the league with Arthurlie, scoring 30 goals, and then he scored 13 last season in the Premier League.

“Ross had a big impact in both games against us last season, where he got an assist in one and scored in the other and was probably Kilbirnie’s best player in the two games.

“He’s a big, strong, powerful runner and is quality in the box and somebody I think we could work with for years to come.”
