Renfrew manager Jimmy Quigley insists there are some positives to take from his team's derby defeat at the hands of Johnstone Burgh.

It was a disappointing start to the season for 'Frew as they lost 4-0 at home to their local rivals, with summer signing Kyle Lafferty scoring twice for the visitors.

Quigley admits mistakes proved costly for his team.

He told Gazette Sport: "There were more positives than negatives. I thought we played really well in spells.

"The only thing that let us down was three bad mistakes. If you do that against a team of quality, they will punish you.

"They have signed some good players and it is not just about Lafferty."

The summer spending spree at Burgh, which has also included the arrival of ex-Scotland star Graham Dorrans, was clearly on the mind of Renfrew's social media administrator when announcing Lafferty's first goal, which put the visitors 3-0 ahead.

A tongue-in-cheek post read: "Renfrew FC 0 Johnstone Burgh 3, £a££erty."

Renfrew are back in action on Wednesday night, when they travel to Rutherglen Glencairn, and will then have a home match against Kilwinning Rangers on Saturday.
