Johnstone Burgh boss Jamie McKim believes that he is now starting to see the best of his team.

It was a busy summer at Keanie Park with a number of new, high-profile recruits with the likes of Kyle Lafferty, Graham Dorrans and Jason Naismith all checking in.

It was an underwhelming start to the league season from Burgh as they won just two of their opening five games but have since gone on to record three wins in a row, including a 3-0 win over Dundee East Craigie in the Scottish Junior Cup on Saturday.

Jojo Gillespie opened the scoring at the weekend with a deflected cross before Dale Simeon doubled the lead just after the break when he finished off a superb passing move and Hamish McKinlay added the third a few minutes from the final whistle.

McKim admits it was always going to take some time for his side to gel together and insists Saturday could have been more comfortable.

Speaking to Gazette Sport, he said: “When you’re going into any cup competition the priority is always just to get through to the next round but for where we are I was also looking for a performance to see a bit of progression and I think I got that. It couldn’t have gone much better.

“I thought it could have been more convincing for us, but for a few refereeing decisions. We had two disallowed goals and a penalty given against us so it could have been a different story.

“We got a wee break with the first goal but it was deserved after the amount of chances we created and our disallowed goals.

“Some of the play in general was fantastic and there are signs that the team is gelling and everyone is getting to know each other.

“You can see what we are trying to achieve with some of the play and we scored a couple of great goals. Saturday was our eighth competitive game as a team and it’s all starting to click.”

Burgh now head into a period of another three home games in a row, starting with Maybole this weekend, and McKim is keen to make the most of the Keanie Park surface.

He said: “We know we’ve got this run of home games coming but all our attention is just on this weekend.

“Maybole have had a really good start and they are a strong team. They’ll be physical and aggressive so it’s a tough one for us.

“Keanie Park is looking outstanding at the moment, it’s the best I’ve ever seen it so hopefully we can take advantage of that and keep scoring goals like we did on Saturday and keep clean sheets along the way.”

Kick-off on Saturday is at 2.00pm.
