Johnstone Burgh manager Jamie McKim hasn’t ruled out adding to his squad, despite already making big moves in the transfer market.

The Keanie Park club has spent big to recruit experienced names such as Kyle Lafferty, Graham Dorrans and Jason Naismith, as well as snapping up some of the West of Scotland Football League's top talent in the shape of Del Esplin, Dale Simeon and Ross McKenzie.

That summer spending spree hasn’t led to huge success on the pitch as yet, with Burgh suffering disappointing results against Shotts Bon Accord, Petershill and Maybole.

They currently occupy sixth place in the First Division but McKim is adamant his team's fortunes were never going to change overnight.

He told Gazette Sport: “I said from day one that it was going to take a bit of time for us to gel after making so many new signings – and we’re still making adjustments to the squad.

“You need to have your healthy mix of younger players who will bring the energy and the legs, the players who are well experienced at this level and then players who have experience of the levels above to drag us to where we want to be and set the standards.

“We need to make sure the performances improve week to week, get as many good results as we can and build on the positives.

“Any movement that is made now will be to suit us. There’s nothing that we have to desperately go and find but you always want to improve the squad.

“We’re in a position now that we can’t add numbers, it’s just quality when we need it.”

Burgh hosted Kilbirnie Ladeside in the South Challenge Cup on Saturday but, with just 13 minutes on the clock, play was halted due to a serious leg injury suffered by visiting defender Jack Wilson.

An ambulance was called after he went down unchallenged but, as there was still no sign of it 20 minutes later, the referee decided to abandon the game.

Wilson was eventually taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery for a broken bone and ligament damage.

Burgh return to league duty this Saturday, when Neilston visit Keanie Park, with kick-off at 2pm.

Renfrew had the weekend off but will be back in action at 2pm on Saturday as they host Drumchapel United.
