A DAD has revealed how he bagged two world records while injured at 62 years old.

Frank Sinclair, from Houston, took home a double victory in the 2023 World Deadlifting Championships last month after hurting his leg during a warmup.

Despite the pain in his quad the strongman lifted 340kg in the Viking Deadlift and 320kg in the Silver Dollar Deadlift, both in categories for males over 60’s at the Foundry gym in Paisley.

He revealed the key to his success wasn’t a strict exercise routine or diet, as the fork-lift operator with Bellway Homes Ltd can only eat what he "can afford”.

Instead, the 16-stone heavy lifter believes his wins came as a result of his intense “determination” and “having goals”.

Frank explained: “I can only eat what I can afford, which is usually things like pot noodles.

“I definitely don’t have the money for loads of steak and eggs but I try to have protein when I can, like an oat cake before the gym.

“I also only work out three times a week. I think the thing that really helps me win is my determination and having goals.

“I have always thought if I have a target I can do it, I just do everything with 100% belief in myself.”

Frank has now been crowned a world champ eight times since he started to lift weights 40 years ago. But, he almost gave up competing after losing his wife Shirley Sinclair, 53, in 2015 which left Frank heartbroken and struggling to find motivation to continue.

Then after the pandemic, he decided to use his grief as fuel to go on and now competes in her memory.

Now he has no plans to consider retiring until he lifts 900 pounds and believes he hasn’t even reached his peak yet.

He explained: “I really struggled after losing my wife because I missed her so much, I still do.

“It was hard to get into competing but now I use training as a way to get all of my feelings out.

“It feels really good to be back now, I have no plans to even think about stopping until I lift 900 pounds.

“I recently cleared 800 pounds at the gym and it felt okay so I am confident I am going to get my goal next year.”

He added: “I would like to thank Andy Borland, construction director at Bellway Homes, for sponsoring me. It really helps.”
