RENFREW FC are out of the Scottish Junior Cup after a heartbreaking 4-2 defeat on penalties to Troon at New Western Park on Saturday.
It was the second time the sides had battled out it in the space of a week after a 1-1 draw at Troon last weekend ensured a replay.
During a see-saw encounter between the Super League First Division rivals which ended 2-2, Frew co-manager Colin Clark and Troon boss Jimmy Kirkwood were sent off from the sidelines for separate verbal clashes with the referee.
The home side took the lead in the first half as Kieron Maxwell found the net.
But Troon were then awarded a penalty and Scott McLean made no mistake from 12 yards.
And McLean was on the mark again the 43rd minute after a lovely team move to put Troon 2-1 up at half-time.
Frew got back on level terms with their own penalty as Jamie Docherty held his nerve after a long delay to slot home the equaliser.
Despite more chances at both ends the teams could still not be separated and the match went straight to penalties. And it was Troon who advanced after Jack Paterson scored the winning penalty in a 4-2 shoot-out win.
