PAISLEY will stage an international tango festival this weekend as part of its bid to become UK City of Culture in 2021.

Held over three days at the Coats Memorial Church, the event will bring together world-class teachers, performers and musicians.

The weekend will consist of workshops designed to boost tango knowledge and enjoyment.

There will also be special classes limited to eight couples, providing a higher level of individual attention.

A free tango taster lesson for complete beginners will run each day, with the aim of growing the local tango community.

These will run from 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

As well as plenty of dancing, the festival will also include entertainment acts and guest DJs.

Friday’s event will run from 8pm until midnight, with DJ Diego ‘El Pajaro’ Riemer in charge.

Entry costs £12, or £5 for non-dancers.

The following evening, expect dance performances and entertainment from the likes of DJ Anto Cosi, Juanjo Lopez Vidal and Orquesta Tipica.

This starts at 8pm and entry costs £20, or £10 for non-dancers, which includes a light buffet.

For the closing event on Sunday, from 8pm until midnight, DJ Michael Nadtochi will be behind the decks. It costs £12, or £5 for non-dancers.
