ONE of the world’s most prolific fiddle groups will take centre stage in Johnstone this weekend.

Marking their 20th year in 2018, Blazin’ Fiddles (pictured above) offer a rare opportunity to hear regional expressions from Scotland’s Highlands and Islands.

From remote village halls to the BBC Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the band has earned a glowing reputation for providing a great night out.

The line-up features four fiddlers – Inverness’s Bruce MacGregor, Shetlander Jenna Reid, Nairn’s Rua Macmillan and Orcadian Kristan Harvey – who are supported on guitar and piano by Anna Massie and Angus Lyon.

A spokesperson for the band said: “In the past decade, no other band has quite captured Scottish fiddle music’s variety, energy and sensitivity like Blazin’ Fiddles have.

“Like rare single malts, each member of Blazin’ Fiddles draws the distinct flavour of music from their part of the Highlands and Islands. Blending solo and ensemble sets, aged with the occasional insightful tale, they all come together in a fiery blend to excite your senses.”

Saturday’s concert, which starts at 7.30pm, is a rescheduled event that was originally due to take place in November last year.

Standard tickets cost £14, with concessions available for £12.
