A DESPERATE would-be car thief is on the run after dragging a terrified woman from her car and trying to steal the vehicle.
The attempted theft happened in the Renfrew Aldi supermarket car park near the High Street.
After assaulting the driver, the crook tried to make off with the car however he couldn't start it properly and then made a hasty escape.
The alarming incident took place on Tuesday at 5.45pm.
The suspect is described as being aged around 33-38, between 5 foot 8 to 9 inches in height, with fair short hair and dressed in casual clothing.
Although unharmed, the woman was left severely shaken.
A police spokesman said: "This incident is being classed as assault with intent to rob.
"People are advised to take extra care in car parks and be aware in case this man strikes again.
"There already has been and will be extra patrol officers in the area following the incident."
