OVER a thousand people, including plenty of Wookiees and Stormtroopers, attended the Star Wars themed Lochwinnoch Gala Day.

The well attended event offered a range of fun activities including a bouncy castle, dancing, a dog show and games

Revellers assembled at Auld Simon at noon before arriving at the public park at 1pm for the opening ceremony and crowning of the queen.

Melissa Lynch was joined by her attendants Kirsty Graham and Hannah Davis, all from Lochwinnoch Primary.

The parade itself was made up of children from Lochwinnoch Primary and led by the St Columbus School Pipe Band from Kilmacolm.

Then the event was opened by Lochwinnoch’s Carmen Pieraccini of River City fame.

There was a fancy dress competition on the field and a youngster was chosen to be in a carefully staged fight sequence with one of the characters.

The popular bottle stall was back, run on behalf of the Toddler’s Group collecting £600 and lots of bottled goods.

Lochwinnoch Gala Day convenor, Jane Owens said: "It was a fantastic day - the Star Wars parade was enjoyed very much by all and there was a lot to do at the gala itself.

"There were 36 stalls plus a bouncy castle, football, the Street Bus, Pulse Dance Academy, a dog show and games from the Girls Brigade.

"Three Star Wars characters took part in a fighting scene with a child using light sabers. The costumes were outstanding.

"There was also plenty of crafts, charity stalls, snacks and refreshment stands, with ice cream, burgers and doughnuts on offer.

"Plus there was a beer gazebo and tea room to relax in.

"I'd like to say thanks to Renfrewshire council and Strathclyde Police, the local councillors, Lochwinnoch Primary, Charlie Fraser, Lochwinnoch Community Council, Alter Landscapes, Morag's Keep Fit, Sandy Innes from the Corner Bar, Gillian Lesley from Creations for Costumes and St Andrew's First Aid."
