A CELEBRATION of numbers added up to a whole lot of fun for pupils at an Erskine school.

The special event took place at Barsail Primary, where staff were determined to prove that maths can be fun.

Children were able to meet 101 dalmatians in the school hall as they arrived for lessons and then follow Snow White and the seven dwarves along the corridors.

It was all part of the NSPCC Number Day, aimed at helping pupils across the country enjoy numeracy lessons.

Acting head teacher Emma Mavis, who doubled up as Snow White, said everyone at the school was happy to take part.

“You might not think children would enjoy mathematics and numbers but it was a wonderful event,” she added. “Everyone went to a lot of effort to come to school as their favourite number-related character.

“We had the three blind mice, children wearing football shirts with a player’s number on the back and even a certain TV directory inquiry team.

“There was also a serious side to the fun as we introduced pupils to numbers and explained how they play such a big role in everyday life.”

Money raised from the event at Barsail Primary has been donated to the NSPCC.

A charity spokeswoman said: “NSPCC Number Day is a fun, nationwide maths fundraising event for children and young people of all ages that helps raise money to support the NSPCC.

“We believe that every child deserves a safe and happy childhood. By taking part in Number Day, the money raised will help us to protect children who are in danger and prevent abuse from shaping a child’s future.”
