HUNDREDS of migrant birds are in for a real ‘tweet’ when they visit Renfrewshire in the coming months.

They will find their nests well and truly feathered, thanks to a birdbox-building event at the RSPB reserve in Lochwinnoch.

Dozens of people got expert

advice from staff on building a nesting box for their gardens or window ledges.

These will provide a welcome home for a number of birds that visit Renfrewshire every spring and summer.

Jasmine Caulfield, from the nature reserve, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people turn out for the birdbox day.

“They were shown how to build a simple garden nesting box, which the children loved painting with colourful bird designs.

“This is the time of year to get boxes in place for the many different birds which call Renfrewshire home in the spring and summer.

“Summer migrants include warblers, as well as blue tits.”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Lochwinnoch reserve, which is one of the few wetlands left in west Scotland.

Jasmine added: “The reserve is the perfect spot to watch whooper swans and a wide variety of ducks during the winter months. In spring, you can see elaborate displays by great crested grebes.

“Visitors can also look out for otters and pop into the visitor centre for a snack or to browse in the shop, which has an array of bird-related products.”
