A PAISLEY man has been charged with throwing a dog out of the window of a second-floor flat, leaving it with a broken leg.

Alexander Arrol is said to have hurled the animal out of his flat in Ferguslie Walk on Monday, February 27, after smashing the window by throwing a television through the glass.

Arrol, 30, is now behind bars after being charged with causing the animal unnecessary suffering.

He was arrested over the incident and held in police custody overnight before appearing in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court the following day.

Arrol was led into the dock in handcuffs for a private hearing, during which he was represented by defence solicitor Paul Lynch.

He has been charged with culpable and reckless conduct by throwing the television through his window, to the danger of members of the public passing by when it hit the ground.

Arrol is also accused of causing the dog unnecessary suffering, in breach of Section 19(1) of the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006, by throwing the animal through his window, to its severe injury.

He is further charged with vandalism after the television he is accused of throwing is said to have landed on the bonnet of a car parked in the street, leaving it damaged.

Arrol made no plea to the charges against him and was remanded in custody by Sheriff Robert Fife.

The case was continued for prosecutors to investigate further and Arrol is expected to make a second court appearance later this month.
