THERE were silly pirates and lots of cuddly teddy bears when the Children’s Hour nursery celebrated World Book Day.

Youngsters were asked to bring in their favourite book and to dress up as a character for the fun-packed event.

One of the highlights was a visit from a real life pirate, otherwise known as Tracy, who told the sad tale of a not-so-fierce shipmate.

About 30 children took part in a series of dangerous and treacherous escapades including a treasure hunt through mud, water and stones – all safely contained in trays.

At the end of the afternoon, they were able to track down the nursery’s very own teddy bear who joined them for a song.

Head teacher Lisa McNaught said: “This was probably our best ever World Book Day.”

“There was so much going on from a story read by a pirate to another read by a Gruffalo. The children and the staff had a wonderful time.”
