A teenager has appeared in court charged with killing a man who died days after he was found injured in a Paisley street.

James Crossan, 18, is accused of culpable homicide following the death of 33-year-old Johnathan McEwan.

Mr McEwan was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, on Saturday after an incident took place in the town's New Street at about 3am.

He died at the hospital on Tuesday.

Crossan made no plea when he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court today.

He was released on bail ahead of a further court appearance.

Tributes to Mr McEwan have poured in following his death.

It has also been revealed that his organs have been donated, in the hope they will help to save the lives of others.

Mr McEwan's family released a statement through police earlier this week, thanking the medical staff who had treated him.

They said: "We would like to thank all the staff at the intensive care unit in the Royal Alexandra Hospital and also the members of the organ donation team.

''We would also like to thank all our family and friends for their support and love that has been shown for Johnny and his family at this difficult time.''
