A MAN has died after he was hit by a train at a station in Johnstone.
British Transport Police confirmed that they rushed to the scene at Howwood train station at around 7.50pm last night.
Paramedics were also in attendance but the man died at the scene.
British Transport Police said enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and inform his family.
His death is being treated as not suspicious.
The line between Johnstone and Lochwinnoch suffered delays last night as a result of the incident.
Services between Glasgow Central Station and Ayrshire were also disrupted.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "We were called to Howwood station last night following reports of a person being struck by a train.
"BTP and ambulance attended however a man was sadly pronounced dead - enquiries are on going to identify the man and inform his family.
"Officers were called shortly before 7.49pm.
"This incident is not being treated as suspicious, a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."
