AN Erskine fashionista turned on the style as she hosted a special event to raise cash for a good cause.

Businesses came together for a ladies shopping session at the Bishopton Inn.

Denise Cooper, a fashion consultant for French-inspired clothing brand Captain Tortue, organised the event, which coined in cash for the Mary’s Meals charity.

She invited businesses from across the area to come together to sell candles, bags, jewellery and accessories.

Staff at the Bishopton Inn played their part by serving up sweet treats and hot drinks.

Each of the businesses involved in the event also donated an item towards the raffle, with the proceeds being used by the Scottish-based charity to help feed and educate poverty-stricken children across the world.

Denise said: “I have been supporting Mary’s Meals for years as the work they do is fantastic. I like to fundraise when I can.

“People came along for a one-stop shopping experience and could enjoy some cake and chat at the same time.

“The raffle was also a success as each of the businesses taking part in the event contributed something.”

Denise has now set her sights on another fundraising event, which takes place at Mar Hall, in Bishopton, on Sunday.

This time, funds will be donated to the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, in Glasgow.

Denise said: “My clothing line will be set up for noon, with a percentage of my sales going to the charity.

“I think it is important that whatever I earn goes back to those who need it the most.”

Mary’s Meals offers support to needy children by providing one good meal in a place of learning.

This helps to draw the children into the classroom, where they can receive an education that could one day free them from poverty.

The charity currently works in 14 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
