SCOUTS in Elderslie staged an event people could really ‘dig’ as they hosted a colourful plant sale.

Perennials, bedding plants, shrubs and climbers were among the many items on offer for green-fingered guests at the village’s Scout hall.

Sheila Davies, Scout leader, was delighted with the turnout.

She said: “We host this fundraiser each year and it is extremely popular.

“We source good-quality plants from McLaren’s Nurseries, in Uplawmoor, who have supplied us for as long as I can remember.

“It is a great way to fundraise as, unlike bag packing in shops, people come here to get something that they really want, rather than being obliged.”

Around £800 was raised on the day, which will go towards general running costs for the Scouts.

Sheila added: “As it was such a lovely day, people were saying they were going to plant their purchases as soon as they got home.

“Our event is now known to many in the area as the Elderslie plant sale, rather than the Scout plant sale, as it has become such a big event.”
