POP Idol star Darius found himself in the spotlight in 2003 when he paid a visit to Johnstone Hospital.

The singer (pictured above), then aged 22, went to see his grandfather, Colin Campbell, who spent a month there receiving treatment.

However, at the time, a hospital insider told how the visit did not go as planned.

The source said: “It was a shame. The poor boy could not spend any time alone with his grandpa because he was pestered so much for pictures and autographs.

“And Mr Campbell did not seem to like his time in the hospital. I don’t think he liked the fact that he was the only man sharing a ward with women.”

Mr Campbell was later transferred to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley.

The insider added: “He said to one of my colleagues after the transfer to the RAH that he never wanted to go back to Johnstone Hospital again.”

“He was taken out of the hospital by his daughter, Darius’s mum, Dr Campbell, who works as a family doctor in Johnstone and Linwood.”

Before the move, Mr Campbell spent almost a month in the plush Dura ward, recently given a face lift to the tune of £80,000.

Two months previously Argyll and Clyde NHS Trust revealed plans to move every patient out of the hospital within 18 months.

Mr Danesh was unavailable for comment.
