A BARBER with shops in Paisley and Barrhead has the chance of doing “the treble” this year after making it through to the final stages of an international competition.

Davie Walker, who owns Davie The Barbers, is in the running for International Barber of the Year Award and Scottish Barber of the Year at the 7th Official Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards.

He said: “We got through the UK heats of the International Barber of the Year last week. We could do the treble.”

Davie is one of the first two barbers of the UK qualifications who will be finalists at this year’s International Barber Awards taking place in Nuremberg,Germany.

The 35 year-old explained there were hundreds entered from UK and the first round of the competition involved a picture entry, then he had to create a business look on a model.

He added: “I can’t wait for the challenge in Germany now. I’ll travel with a model, cut live on stage in front of thousands of people and hopefully bring the trophy back to Scotland.”

Davie started his business in his home town of Paisley, and he now lives in Barrhead with wife Lindsay, seven-year-old son Danny and five-year-old daughter Eva.

Over the past 10 years, Davie’s reputation has steadily grown and earlier this year we told how he had excelled at the Look Awards, held in Glasgow, where he saw off tough competition to take the coveted top title.

Davie has also been chosen to represent Scotland by the British Master Barbers Alliance at a live event in London which aims to showcase, promote and support the wealth of barbering talent across the UK.

Davie added: “People will always need their hair cut but there is so much more to it than just cutting hair. When someone makes an appointment we sit them down and talk about face shape, type of hair, styles of cutting.

“We want people to be happy and confident when they walk out.

“All our appointments are made online now so we are constantly looking at our service and what we can do better.

“Master Barber Live is all about inspiring other barbers. There will be live demonstrations, trade stands, competition, networking and continued education.”

Education is a big part of Davie’s profession as he also runs the Outlaw Barber Collective and Best of British Barbering, coaching wannabe barbers at training events and education displays across the UK.

He is currently working with Wahl, the manufacturer of consumer and professional grooming products, alongside celebrity barber Simon Shaw.

Master Barber Live will take place in England on September 10 and the International Barber of the Year Award will take place on October 22 and 22.
