Around 50,000 properties were left with no water this morning due to a burst water main in Renfrew.

Kirklandneuk Primary School and the West College Scotland campus in Paisley have been forced to close following the incident in Argyll Avenue.

Properties in postcodes PA1, PA3 and PA4 have been affected.

People in parts of Glasgow are also without water with postcodes G13, G41, G43, G52 and G53 all affected.

Scottish Water has said it is making good progress in restoring supplies but some properties will get water back sooner than others.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said: “We attended this burst as quickly as possible and have made good progress in isolating it and re-zoning the network to enable us to start restoring normal supplies as soon as we could.

“Although some properties will have had normal supplies restored quickly, others will take longer depending on factors such as their location on our network.

“We would like to apologise to customers who have been without water, or have experienced a reduction in water pressure, and thank them for their patience and understanding.”
