Party time

Bishopton Week committee are excited to announce this year’s Hogmanay family party 2017.

It will take place on Sunday, December 31 from 8pm to 1am at the Bishopton Community Centre.

Guests can expect a DJ, children’s magician, party games and buffet all lined up for a great start to 2018.

Carols by Candlelight

A RENFREW church will host a Christmas service, which all are welcome to attend.

Carols by Candlelight will take place at St Margaret’s Episcopal Church at Oxford Road.

This ecumenical service will take place on Friday, December 15 at 7pm.

There will be mince pies in the church hall after the service and again everyone is invited to join.

This year the collection will go to Calum’s Cabin, a charity that was set up to give a holiday on the Isle of Bute to children with a terminal illness and their family that would create happy memories, all in memory of a much loved son.

Scout and about

A NEW Scout group in Johnstone is on the lookout for more recruits.

Based at the town’s Fordbank Primary School, the group has sections for Beavers and Cubs.

The first month has seen boys and girls come through the doors to take part in various activities, as well as learning first aid skills.

Youngsters are also looking forward to trips to Johnstone Fire Station, Glasgow Airport and Lapwing Lodge, on the Gleniffer Braes, where they will enjoy a sleepover.

Organisers are looking for young people from all areas of Johnstone to join them to experience fun, adventure and challenge.

Snap to it

A PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition will be on show in Bridge of Weir, courtesy of two local snapper.

The event, which runs until Saturday, January 13, is a chance to check out the work of Andy Stark and Al Goold.

It takes place at The Bridge, 65 Main Street, Bridge of Weir, and everyone is welcome to go along.

Crafternoon tea

A BRDIGE of Weir bakery will be transformed into an elf craft workshop this week.

Three Sisters Bake will host a “crafternoon tea” which will include fun activities for all ages.

This involves Christmas card design, decorating Mrs Claus’s baking and creative festive decorations.

Also on the agenda will be Christmas afternoon tea, elfie selfies and letter writing to Santa, including a response letter directly from the North Pole.

Adults can enjoy a festive afternoon tea which should be booked in advance.

Festive party

PARTY animals can get merry for a good cause at Ingliston Country Club’s Christmas party.

The Bishopton venue will host the event on Saturday, December 16 from 7pm.

Taking place in the Connemara Suite of Ingliston Country Club, guests will enjoy a welcome drink and canapes, three course meal with half bottle of wine, live swing music from the Wee EN21 Band and a Christmas Party DJ until late.

Tickets are priced at just £50 with proceeds going to Alzheimer Scotland.

On the night guests will also have the chance to take part in a charity raffle.

Tree sale

THE Kilmacolm Scouts have Christmas covered this year.

Those who have still to deliver cards can do so with the help of the village group.

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers provide a Christmas card postal service for the community of Kilmacolm.

The cards can be posted into special postboxes located in The Cross Café and Kilmacolm Community Centre until Friday, December 15, for a donation of 30p per card.

All the cards will be hand-posted over the weekend of December 16 and 17.

Special delivery

MEMBERS of the Bishopton Christian Aid Group will be delivering a special service this festive season.

The merry band of volunteers are offering to hand-deliver Christmas cards to homes across Bishopton, including the Dargavel estate, and Erskine.

Cards will be specially stamped and delivered for a minimum donation of 25p each.

They can be deposited in special boxes at the Co-op, KeyStore and U-Save shops in Greenock Road until noon on December 17.

Cards can also be dropped off at The Salon, in Greenock Road, until noon on December 16 and at The Cornerstone, also in Greenock Road, from 10am until 2pm on December 16, and from 12.30pm until 2pm on December 17.

Alternatively, cards can be left after services at Bishopton Parish Church on December 17.

John Littler, of the Bishopton Christian Aid Committee, said: “To ensure speedy delivery, please print the name and full address the cards are to be delivered to.”

Walk this way

THOSE who enjoy the great outdoors can walk towards better health by joining a Walking Buddies group.

The Johnstone Castle-based group meets at 9.30am every Monday, leaving from 31 Maple Drive.

And, on Tuesdays, the Johnstone group leaves from 16 Quarry Street at 9.30am.

Linwood Walking Buddies get together every Tuesday at 1pm, starting at Belmar Court.

Ramblers can join these groups for a stroll, some friendly chat and a cuppa afterwards.

Walks last for around an hour and are suitable for all abilities.

Kids party

BROOKFIELD will be alive with the sound of music this weekend.

The village Christmas Carol Service will take place on Sunday, December 17, from 2pm.

This will be a celebration of Christmas, with the Brookfield Brass Necks leading the carols, followed by mince pies and mulled wine.

Just the ticket

A NEW show by members of the Renfrewshire Model Railway Club is on track for the new year.

This will take place in Johnstone Town Hall from 10am until 5pm on Saturday, January 13, and from noon until 4pm on Sunday, January 14.

The exhibition will have a multi-national theme, with layouts depicting scenes from 10 different countries.

There will also be an interactive zone where visitors are permitted to control locos and racing cars.

In the frame

PHOTOGRAPHERS of all abilities are invited to attend a camera club in Johnstone.

The Johnstone Community Camera Club meets every Monday, from 7pm until 9pm.

Sessions take place at the Johnstone Community Learning Centre, in Pine Crescent, where members discuss photos taken.

Pictures can range from landscapes to wildlife to portraits.

Even those who simply have queries about photography and camera models can stop by for advice.

Community choir

LINWOOD Community Choir is welcoming new members to the group.

Singers can head along to Linwood Baptist Church, in Erskinefauld Road, to join in the fun.

Sessions run every Tuesday, from 6.15pm to 7.45pm.

No prior experience is required, nor is the need to read music – the group promotes singing for fun.

It costs £3 per week to take part.

Special guest

A VERY special guest is coming to Erskine this month.

The Pandamonium Centre will host Christmas fun with Mrs Claus on Wednesday, December 20 from 11am to 1.30pm.
