A RENFREW drama group has staged its annual awards show, leaving youngsters dancing with joy.

The special event saw twinkle-toed members of the Karen E. Moir Dance and Drama School perform a string of impressive routines, as well as collecting prizes for their hard work throughout the year.

More than 200 people turned up for the show, which took place at Renfrew North Parish Church, with the crowd slightly bigger than last year’s turnout.

Dance guru Karen Moir, 39, is delighted that so many people went along to offer their support.

She told The Gazette: “It was a really nice way to start the festive season.

“Ribbons, medals and trophies were handed out to the kids, rewarding them for all their hard work.

“We have girls and boys from two years to 18 years taking part and plenty of people turning up to see them, so they all really enjoy it.”

Mrs Moir set up the group 12 years ago and credits her husband Steven as being the ‘organiser behind the scenes.’

She added: “We set it up together and we have a team of six volunteers, who are an absolute godsend.

“It started off with about 25 members and now we have around 100, which is amazing.”

The couple have since set up three other dance and drama schools – in Hurlford, Galston and Kilmarnock – but Mrs Moir remains committed to offering opportunities for youngsters in her home town of Renfrew.

Members also stage shows at St Margaret’s Church, in Renfrew.
