A COMMUNITY fruit and vegetable shop in Linwood has changed its opening hours for the new year.

Roots of Linwood, which is run by the Linwood Community Development Trust, has also thanked customers for their support throughout 2017.

Located at Mossedge Industrial Estate, the new opening times for Mondays to Thursdays will be from 9am to 1pm.

On Fridays, the hours will be 9am to 4pm and, on Saturdays, people can pay a visit between 9am and 1pm.

The team will also continue with their pop-up shop in Houston, which is based at the Compass Centre, in South Street, from 9.30am until noon.

However, there will no longer be a pop-up shop at Tweedie Hall, in Linwood, on Tuesday afternoons.

Jogging club

THOSE looking to get fit for the new year can get involved in a jogging group.

Erskine Jogging Buddies’ Couch to 5k programme starts on Thursday, January 18, at 6.30pm.

The mixed ability running and jogging group meets every week at Erskine Sports Centre.

All are welcome to attend.

AN art exhibition will take place in Bridge of Weir to raise funds for St Vincent’s Hospice.

The Bridge, located in the village’s Main Street, will host the exhibition from Monday, January 15, until Saturday, February 17.

All cash raised will go towards the Howwood-based charity.

Clean up

CORSEFORD residents are getting ready for their next community clean-up.

This will take place on Saturday, February 4, with the start time still to be confirmed.

In the meantime, the group is appealing for volunteers to get involved, whether it is for a few minutes or hours.

Last month, around 20 people, including children, turned up for a previous clean-up and, within an hour, had managed to collect 25 bags of rubbish, as well as a number of larger items.

Hot stuff

THRILLSEEKERS can get involved in a charity firewalk this weekend.

The Paisley RAMH firewalk takes place on Saturday, from 3pm to 7pm.

All money raised will go towards local mental health services.

Last year’s event was a sell-out, so advance booking is advised.

Registration costs from £10, with a £45 minimum sponsorship total set for each participant.

The event takes place at the ProLife Fitness Centre, in Paisley, which has free parking and is close to Gilmour Street train station.

Community class

ASPIRING artists can take part in community classes to express their creative side.

St Columba’s School, in Kilmacolm, will host art classes on Tuesday, January 16, from 7pm to 9pm.

Led by artist and former teacher Helen Mathie, these are suitable for any level.

Men are on song

KILMACOLM will be alive with the sound of music at a singing showcase.

Westerton Male Voice Choir will perform at Kilmacolm Old Kirk, in High Street, on Saturday, January 20, from 7pm to 9.30pm.

The event is being hosted by the Kilmacolm and Quarriers Christian Aid committee.

Westerton Male Voice, who are currently celebrating 60 years of singing, promise an evening of “high-class entertainment.”

Entry costs £10 and includes refreshments on arrival.

Continental brekkie

EARLY risers can enjoy breakfast in style at a tasty event.

The luxury continental breakfast will take place in Houston and Killellan Kirk, in the village’s Main Street, on Saturday, January 27, from 9am to 11.30am.

There will be child-friendly and gluten-free options available.

Donations will be put towards lamps for school students in Zambia.

Gardening group

BUDDING gardeners are invited to come along to the Kilmacolm Horticultural Society.

The January winter lecture will take place at the village community centre, in Lochwinnoch Road, on Wednesday, January 17, from 7.30pm.

Guest speaker for the day will be Sharon Gemmell, from Parklea: Branching Out – a charity specialising in therapeutic horticultural centres.

As well as gardening fun, participants can find out more about the people and organisation of Parklea.

There will be refreshments on the evening and everyone is welcome to attend.

Knitting club

THOSE who are feeling the chill can get involved in a knitting class in Lochwinnoch.

LEAP Remode’s Knit event will take place on Wednesday, January 17, and Friday, January 19.

It will run from noon until 3pm and from 6pm to 9pm at Lochwinnoch Parish Church.

All levels of knitting expertise are welcome and the classes will focus on brushing up skills and creating loose knit jumpers.

Rainforest ramblers

KIDS who enjoy the great outdoors are invited to join a rainforest-themed explorer group in Lochwinnoch.

The RSPB nature reserve, in Largs Road, will host the event on Saturday, January 20, from 10am to noon.

Participants can come along for a fun day out on the reserve to learn about why rainforests are important.

Those interested should wear suitable clothing for being outdoors.

This event is aimed at those aged between five and 14.

All children aged eight and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Booking is essential and entry costs £5 for kids and £3 for RSPB members.

Adults will be admitted free of charge.

Scout and about

A NEW Scout group in Johnstone is on the lookout for more recruits.

Based at the town’s Fordbank Primary School, the group has sections for Beavers and Cubs.

Boys and girls are able to take part in various activities, as well as learning first aid skills.

Youngsters are also looking forward to trips to Johnstone Fire Station, Glasgow Airport and Lapwing Lodge, on the Gleniffer Braes, where they will enjoy a sleepover.

Organisers are looking for young people from all areas of Johnstone to join them to experience fun, adventure and challenge.

A PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition in Bridge of Weir is coming to an end.

The event, which runs until Saturday, is a chance to check out the work of Andy Stark and Al Goold.

It is taking place at The Bridge, 65 Main Street, and everyone is welcome to go along.

Walk this way

THOSE who enjoy fresh air can walk towards better health by joining a Walking Buddies group.

The Johnstone Castle-based group meets at 9.30am every Monday, leaving from 31 Maple Drive.

And, on Tuesdays, the Johnstone group leaves from 16 Quarry Street at 9.30am.

Linwood Walking Buddies get together every Tuesday at 1pm, starting at Belmar Court.

Ramblers can join these groups for a stroll, some friendly chat and a cuppa afterwards.

Walks last for around an hour and are suitable for all abilities.

LINWOOD Community Choir is welcoming new members to the group.

Singers can head along to Linwood Baptist Church, in Erskinefauld Road, to join in the fun.

Sessions run every Tuesday, from 6.15pm to 7.45pm.

No prior experience is required, nor is the need to read music – the group promotes singing for fun.

It costs £3 per week to take part.
