THE average speed cameras which have been put in place on the M8 have now been activated.

The Glasgow Times previously reported that the cameras were put in place along the motorway between the Cardonald and Braehead junctions.

This is due to major bridge refurbishment works, which were initially postponed, but began today.

The average speed traffic cameras will be in operation throughout the duration of the works to ensure speed limit compliance and safe working conditions.

A 40mph speed limit was in force this morning.

Three bridges will be refurbished as part of the works which will include bridge deck waterproofing, concrete repairs, parapet upgrades, drainage improvements and resurfacing works.

Traffic management will be in operation throughout the duration.
