Residents and staff at a Renfrew care home have been taking part in several special events since the start of June.

Craigielea Care Home, in French Street, celebrated National Doughnut Day on Friday, June 2, by tucking into the much-loved treat.

Staff bought a variety of different flavoured doughnuts from Krispy Kreme and Asda, as well as baking some of their own in the care home.

Sarah Speirs, service manager at Craigielea Care Home, told The Gazette: "We try to give our residents as much social stimulation as possible and keep them up-to-date with what is going on in the community, so we wanted to get them involved in National Doughnut Day.

"As well as sugar and jam doughnuts, our chef also made milkshakes on the day."

The care home also marked the 79th anniversary of D-Day, the massive Allied invasion on the beaches of Normandy during the Second World War.

Residents were able to enjoy the music of British singer Vera Lynn during a tea party on Tuesday, June 6.

Sarah said: "Every resident in the service came down to our bistro area and really enjoyed the event.

"It brought back a lot of memories for them and some of the residents with dementia were able to sing along to the music of Vera Lynn, which was really nice."
