SEVERAL roads across Paisley are to be closed this weekend during Sma’ Shot Day.

We previously reported that the day-long programme of entertainment to celebrate one of the world’s oldest worker’s festivals will take place in the town on Saturday, July 1.

The event celebrates a 19th-century victory by the town’s weavers over their bosses in an industrial dispute.

Renfrewshire Council has announced that several roads are set to be closed from 8am on Friday, June 30, until 9pm on Saturday, July 1.

The roads that will be shut are:

  • Abbey Close, from Cotton Street to Gauze Street
  • Bridge Street/Cotton Street, from Bridge Street car park to the access into the Renfrewshire House car park
  • Bridge Street car park

On top of those closures, a number of other roads are set to be closed from 11.30am until 1.30pm on Saturday, July 1, for the parade.

These are:

  • Braids Road, from Falside Road to Neilston Road
  • Neilston Road, from Lochfield Road to Causeyside Street
  • Causeyside Street, from Neilston Road to St Mirren Street
  • St Mirren Street, from Causeyside Street to High Street
  • High Street, from St Mirren Street to Gauze Street
  • Gauze Street, from High Street to Lawn Street
  • Cotton Street, from Bridge Street to Gauze Street
  • Smithhills Street, from Gauze Street to Weir Street
  • Underwood Road (north side only), from Well Street to Caledonia Street (parking restrictions only)
  • Abercorn Street (west side only), from Weir Street to Niddry Street (parking restrictions only).
