Residents in Elderslie will soon be able to enjoy new exercise equipment.

Work to install the outdoor gym at Queens Road Play Park is currently underway and is due to be completed by next week.

Anne-Marie Balfour, treasurer at Elderslie Community Council, said: "We have been working with Renfrewshire Council to get the equipment installed, they kindly gave us a grant.

"We chose things that any ability could use and we plan to build on it over the years.

"It's important to have the equipment because other parks in Renfrewshire have got some and we've seen that they've been widely used."

Anne-Marie said the community council had carried out a survey among local residents to help them choose the most appropriate exercise equipment.

She added: "The lockdown taught us that we need to have more community facilities because if anything like that happens again, having this facility will help to keep people fit, healthy and active.

"We also hope it will encourage mums to take their kids to the park so they can do a bit of exercise while the kids are playing.

"We just wanted to make it more of a big community space."
