Touching tributes have been paid to a much-loved Renfrewshire singer who died suddenly at the age of 45.

Gillian Brown, who entertained customers at karaoke events in many local pubs, has been described by her family as "fun, bubbly and full of life."

She died on Saturday, June 24, after suffering a heart attack at her home in Paisley.

Gillian was brought up in Erskine, where she attended Bargarran Primary and Park Mains High.

Caitlin Fletcher, the partner of Gillian's brother Ross, told The Gazette: "She was really well-known in pubs around Paisley and Erskine.

"She sang at The Patter Bar, Carnegies, Cottons Bar, basically anywhere that asked her to sing.

"I think everyone really enjoyed having her there, as she was always the life and soul of the party.

"She sang power ballads and loved songs by Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson.

"She was singing all the time. Often you would be having a conversation with her and she would just randomly burst into song."

In May, the singer was left devastated when her mum Sandra died at the age of 74 following a three-year battle with cancer.

Caitlin said: "Gillian was so close to her mum and talked to her on the phone multiple times almost every day.

"It was really tough for her, as Sandra was her best friend as well as her mum.

"When Gillian died, it was so out-of-the-blue, none of us expected it at all.

"We never got to say goodbye to her, just one day you're talking to her and the next day she's not here anymore. It's really strange."

Gillian's funeral took place at Woodside Crematorium, in Paisley, on Wednesday, July 26.

A JustGiving page set up by Gillian's childhood friend Sharon Hunter has raised over £1,400 to pay for the funeral costs.

Caitlin added: "They were so kind in setting that up and I'm really thankful for everybody who has donated, because we were able to give Gillian the send off that she deserved.

"Everybody loved that we had a silver, sparkly coffin, because wherever she went, Gillian was covered in glitter half the time."

There is still time to donate to the fundraising drive for Gillian's funeral. The details can be found at www.gofundme.com/f/our-gillian-the-singing-queen.
