The headteacher of Johnstone High has paid tribute to a pupil who died suddenly at the age of 12.

We previously reported that Steven Dock had tragically passed away on Monday, July 24.

His loved ones described him as a "happy and cheerful boy" who went out of his way to help others.

Lynne Hollywood, headteacher of Johnstone High, said the school community was "devastated" about the sudden loss of Steven.

She told The Gazette: "Steven was a first-year pupil and was regarded by staff and pupils alike as a warm, kind and caring young man with a beautiful and infectious smile.

"He was a hard-working and polite pupil who showed great potential, having achieved a wider achievement award with us for his work outside of school with Scouts."

Ms Hollywood said he was also nominated for a Skye house leader award for his commitment to their school values.

She added: "Steven was a lovely young man and we will miss him terribly. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

"Steven had a very close group of friends from his time in Johnstone High and Fordbank Primary schools. In the new term, we will come together to celebrate Steven's life and ensure the school community receives the appropriate support."

Since last week, donations have poured into a GoFundMe page that is raising money to pay for Steven's funeral.

It has so far raised more than £12,500 – well beyond its £500 target.
