A pair of Renfrewshire residents are among thousands gearing up for the Great Scottish Run this weekend.

Jade Learmouth, from Howwood, and Cameron McGregor, from Paisley, are taking on the challenge to raise funds for charities close to their hearts.

This weekend of running in Glasgow includes a 10k and half marathon on Sunday, October 1 and the AJ Bell Junior & Mini Great Scottish Run on Saturday, September 30.

Jade said she was feeling "excited and nervous" about taking on the 10km, which is the first running event she has taken part in.

The 31-year-old is raising money for mental health charity Mind after being diagnosed with perinatal OCD.

Jade told The Gazette: "I was having intrusive thoughts based around my baby girl and at the time, I felt really alone.

"It's not spoken about as it's such a taboo topic and it took me a while to reach out, because I didn't understand what I was experiencing and there is a lot of guilt and shame that comes with it.

"It was the Mind website that led me to realise I had perinatal OCD, so it really helped me in that time of need.

"I'm in a much better place now and the running has really helped with that, as well as obviously therapy and medication."

Meanwhile, Cameron will be running the half marathon with a 10kg weighed vest to raise money for The Royal Hospital for Children, in Glasgow, and SMA UK.

The dad-of-two is aiming to raise awareness about a rare type of motor neuron disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy – Lower Extremity (SMA - LED), which his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Amber was born with.

Cameron, 31, said: "I'm looking forward to the run now that all the training has been done.

"I did the Scottish Run last year and got two hours 13 minutes, so we'll see how it how goes this time.

"The form of MSA that Amber has affects her motor neuron signals, so it means her thighs don't get the messages they are meant to.

"Her legs are not working as a result, so I'm using my legs to raise more awareness so people know about the condition."
