The Crown is back on our screens for series six and is depicting the final years in the life of Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Netflix programme also shows the relationship between filmmaker Dodi Fayed before the pair's untimely death in 1997.

Who is playing Dodi Fayed in series 6 of The Crown?

The Crown's Dodi Fayed is being played by actor and activist Khalid Abdalla who is known for starring in the BAFTA-nominated film United 93.

The 43-year-old star, who was born in Glasgow, also made a name for himself with his activism when he railed against the Hosni Mubarak regime in Egypt until its demise in 2011.

He has continued to be active in the country.

Who was Dodi Fayed and what films was he involved in making?

Emad El-Din Mohamed Abdel Mena'em Fayed, commonly known as Dodi Fayed, was an Egyptian filmmaker and the son of wealthy businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed.

He was involved as an executive producer in films like Chariots of Fire and Scarlet Fire.

He became romantically involved with Princess Diana in 1997 before dying in a car crash alongside the royal and their driver that same year.

Did Dodi Fayed have a girlfriend before meeting Diana?

In 1986, Fayed was actually married to model Suzanne Gregard but the couple divorced eight months later.

It was also reported that Fayed became engaged to Amercian model Kelly Fisher before he began dating Diana.

It was said that Fisher only learned of Fayed's relationship with Diana after seeing paparazzi photos of the two embracing one another.

Fisher then said she was filing a breach of contract suit against him, saying that he had "led her emotionally all the way up to the altar and abandoned her when they were almost there."

This action was soon dropped by Fisher shortly after his death.
