We're taking a look back at what was happening across Renfrewshire this time 10 years ago.

We delved into the Gazette archives from Wednesday, December 4, 2013, to find and share some photos from that week's edition of the paper.

Do you recognise anyone or remember these stories?

1. Real police officers played the part of cops in a film drama made by young people in care. The biopic, called Please Listen, was about growing up in care and the frustrations young people experience being moved from one residential home to another. It was written and filmed by teenagers from Renfrewshire’s Kibble Education and Care Centre and was one of several productions completed following the launch of KTV (Kibble Television).

The Gazette:

2. A talented schoolgirl sprinkled some festive joy all over TV screens in Renfrewshire. Seven-year-old Emma Kearney, of Renfrew, bagged a role in a television advert for supermarket Aldi. Emma Kearney, along with five-year-olds Layla Hamilton and Hollie Lyons, discussed their love of the store’s chocolate reindeer in the ad.

The Gazette:

3. A much-loved moggy returned home to his family — years after he disappeared. Mischievous Murphy, a 10-year-old black cat from Johnstone, had been holidaying with his family in the Lochgoilhead area back in 2009 when he escaped from his cat carrier. In 2013 his astonished family celebrated an emotional reunion as he turned up at the same holiday park, three and a half years after going missing.

The Gazette:

4. Children at Linwood Community Nursery were part of a national campaign for Road Safety Week. Beep Beep! Day was an initiative by the charity Brake and Churchill Car Insurance involving nurseries, schools and playgroups promoting road safety to parents and local people, and engaging tots through fun activities.

The Gazette:

5. Big-hearted pupils from Lochwinnoch Primary put their wheels in motion to change the life of a mum who had to have her hands and legs amputated. More than 350 school and nursery children ventured out on a sponsored cycle event in aid of former pupil Corinne Hutton’s Finding Your Feet fund. The caring children jumped to take on the wheelathon adventure after hearing about a £250,000 fundraising drive launched by Corinne’s friends and family.

The Gazette:

6. Johnstone residents flocked to the town’s Houston square in droves to kick off 2013's Christmas celebrations. Hundreds of people descended on the town centre for an afternoon of festive fun — leading up to the Christmas Light Switch-on. Boyband Rewind wowed the crowd at the popular annual event, before teaming up with Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall to get Johnstone sparkling for Christmas.
