1. Caitlin hailed queen of chess

The Gazette: A Renfrewshire chess prodigy was given a prestigious award after making all the right moves. Gleniffer High pupil Caitlin Reid was presented with a trophy by Provost Anne Hall for winning the Cherie Booth Award for the most outstanding female junior chess player in the UK. Since gaining the title two years previously, Caitlin represented Scotland at the Junior European Championships in Montenegro during 2013 and won the Scottish Junior Chess Champion title. 

2. Fan frenzy as Beyoncé​ spotted at hotel

The Gazette: Superstar Beyoncé was rumoured to be staying in Bishopton before wowing crowds at the Hydro. It looked like the former Destiny’s Child singer was Crazy In Love with the Mar Hall hotel after there were apparent sightings of the star there. A private jet was spotted on the runway at Prestwick Airport and sources said the pop artist got some rest in the popular village venue before dazzling the crowds at the Glasgow venue. 

3. Chill-out day for schoolkids

The Gazette: Children at Kilbarchan Primary indulged in a day of pure pampering. The school held an annual Wellbeing Day to encourage youngsters to express how they feel.

4. Photographer in the frame for award

The Gazette: A Renfrew mum-of-three’s stunning snaps saw her shortlisted for a prestigious photography award. Denise McDonald captured the attention of judges at the Scottish Wedding Awards with a range of imaginative images.

5. Pupils showcase their Scots talents

The Gazette: Barsail Primary pupils treated parents and teachers to their annual day of Scottish festivities. Pupils of all ages took part in the event, showcasing Highland dancing, poetry and Scottish food. 

6. Knights slayed at the Saints arena

The Gazette: Saints, sponsored by West College Scotland, fired up the scoring machine once more as they welcomed Stirling to the Saints’ arena at the Lagoon Sports Centre in Paisley.
