TRAFFIC disruption is expected this weekend as Orange Walks are scheduled across Renfrewshire.

Town centre roads will be closed as musicians and supporters get involved in parades in Johnstone, Renfrew and Paisley.

Police have warned those attending that violence will not be tolerated and that there will be increased police presence on Saturday, August 12.

Sergeant Alan Mack, who is based at Johnstone Police station said: "As we usually have in the past, there will be officers at these parades to ensure that there is minimal disruption to both pedestrians and those taking part in the procession."

Those travelling through Johnstone, Renfrew and Paisley are advised to double check their travel plans.

For Johnstone, the main procession will take place from 9am until 10am.

Musicians and supporters will go through Laighcartside Street, High Street, McDowall Street, Graham Street and Quarrelton Road.

Renfrew roads being affected from 6.15pm to 7.15pm are Newmains Road, Paisley Road, Hairst Street, Canal Street, Ferry Road and Campbell Street.

Meanwhile the Paisley Orange Walk will go through McKerrell Street, Glasgow Road, Gauze Street, High Street, Wellmeadow Street, Broomlands Street and Castle Street from 5pm to 6pm.

A Renfrewshire Council spokeswoman said: "Anyone who wants to hold a march or a parade is required to notify the local authority and provide details on likely numbers attending, timing and stewarding arrangements.

"The council consults with Police Scotland and other interested members of the public before deciding if the event should be prohibited."
