JOHNSTONE’S party of the year is finally here.

After months of meticulous planning the Johnstone Gala Day is set to be bigger than ever for 2017.

Organised by Johnstone Community Council, the event will take place on Sunday, August 27, from 12 until 4pm at Thomas Shanks Park.

Bouncy castles, inflatable fun, dance displays and zumba sessions will have the party jumping all day long.

Live music and a football tournament will keep guests on their toes, plus a tug of war will determine who will come out as top dog.

And not wanting to miss out any of the family, attendees can bring their pooches along to compete in their very own competition.

The dog show will have a variety of categories to enter and will be raising awareness for Smokey Paws, a charity which provides pet oxygen masks to fire departments.

Wilma Dean, who is helping to run this year’s event, is confident that this year will be a great success, despite an initial set back with licensing issues and a date change.

She told the Gazette: “We’ve had such a great contribution from the entire community and the event wouldn’t be able to go ahead without such fantastic support.

“Various groups such as the air cadets, Thorn Athletics football club and Johnstone Scouts will be there on the day and we have had great help from Erskine Youth Music Studio.

“And there’s no need to worry about potential rain on the day as there will be marquees in case the weather takes a turn for the worse.

“There are still stalls available and we would very much appreciate any donations from local businesses for raffle prizes. We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend.”
