IT was time to get crafty for kids in Johnstone as they enjoyed two hours of non-stop fun at their monthly Sunshine Club.

The gatherings, held on the third Saturday of every month at St Paul’s Church, are part of an outreach programme which aims to help young people banish boredom.

Those who went along on Saturday were able to enjoy various games, arts and crafts, as well as some tasty treats, while enjoying some independence away from mum and dad.

Many of the youngsters also created spooky creatures and cookies as they geared up for the Hallowe’en celebrations.

The club has gone from strength to strength in recent months. It started out with just a handful of members but now welcomes scores of youngsters through the doors.

Christine McCormack, a committee member at St Paul’s Church, told The Gazette: “The club is a bit of outreach for the church.

“Our numbers have been growing really nicely. Kids are enjoying lots of games and crafts and they don’t have to come along with their parents, although some adults do choose to stay.

“It’s also helping to increase membership at the likes of the Boys’ Brigade group, which is great.

“We hope it will continue to grow and more people will come along.”

Everyone is welcome to attend, including parents who may wish to accompany their children.
