On Thursday, October 9, the public were invited to the opening of the new look supermarket following an investment of £325,000.

Sandy Carmichael helped food store staff to celebrate the conversion by cutting the ribbon and declaring the new-look store open for the community.

The new-format store has been redefined with a spacious new-look, an enhanced in-store bakery range and, a focus on meal ideas, healthy, fresh and chilled foods and, essentials — the store also reveals its distinctive new black and silver signage, designed with the help of Kilbarchan Community Council to meet conservation area requirements.

The store is also pioneering a new role, known as a Community Pioneer, with a member of the food store team, Mary Barrie, also working to foster involvement in community activities.

To coincide with the re-launch of the store, Alzheimer Scotland, and the Loom Walk Action for Children respite centre will be the focus of the store’s fundraising and charitable support.

Scott Bain, manager of The Co-operative’s new-look Kilbarchan store, said: “We are delighted to have made such a significant investment in Kilbarchan, and we are very excited to have our fantastic new-format food store with which to serve the community.

“The Co-operative is a community retailer, and we are committed to playing an active role in local life, embracing the area’s community spirit. The store will be a hub for the local community, and customers will be able to find out what is going on locally, and learn about how The Co-operative can benefit local groups - I am confident the store will provide the community with everything needed to pick-up delicious food conveniently and, create inspirational and tasty meals at home.” There are offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its re-opening.
