The attacker — who was on crutches — struck in front of horrified onlookers at the busy Linwood eatery at the weekend.

The pair, who are believed to be known to each other, are understood to have began arguing in Dario’s Takeaway, in the town’s Clippens Road, on Saturday night.

The argument is said to have turned into a scuffle which spilled outside — but not before the crutch-using brute ploughed a glass bottle of vodka into his victim’s face.

He then smashed what was left of the bottle over his 27-year-old victim’s head — leaving his face in such a state he required urgent hospital treatment.

Police were called to attend the 11.50pm glass attack but before they could race to the scene the thug had hobbled off into the night on his crutches.

Cops probing the attack are now appealing to the public for help in tracing the brute, who is described as being aged between 20 and 25 and around 5ft 10ins tall.

He was wearing a red hoody at the time of the attack, and his crutches are also an obvious giveaway.

Inspector Angela McHendry, of Renfrew Police, described the assault as “a horrific and serious attack” which has left the victim traumatised.

And she has asked any members of the public who may know something about the incident, no matter how small, to get in touch.

Anyone with any information can contact Police Scotland on 101, go to their nearest police station, or phone CRIMESTOPPERS, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

At the time The Gazette went to press the victim was still in Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital, receiving treatment for eight cuts to his face and a head wound.

Dario, the owner of the chippy where the attack took place, said the incident stemmed from “an altercation” which broke out between two customers while the shop was busy.

He said he was busy dealing with a customer and did not see much of the incident, which quickly spilled outside and ended in bloody violence.
