Detectives are continuing enquiries following a housebreaking and attempted housebreaking in Renfrew.

At around 12.30pm on Tuesday, a house in Campsie Drive was broken into.

Those responsible forced entry while the homeowners were out for the day.

Police said the victims returned to find their home ransacked and numerous personal items, mainly jewellery, stolen.

Many of the items hold sentimental value for the owners, who are said to be "extremely upset" by the theft.

The second incident took place at around 4.50pm yesterday in Fairfield Drive.

On this occasion, the thieves were unsuccessful in their attempt to gain access. Officers believe this may be due to an intruder alarm going off.

A black coloured Audi, possibly a Q5 or a Q7, was seen in the area at the time, along with four men who are described as white and were wearing dark clothing, possibly tracksuits.

Three of the men were wearing black baseball caps and a fourth man was wearing a yellow cap.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are still in the process of reviewing CCTV footage which has been gathered from in and around the area.

Detective Sergeant Ian Ross said: “I am appealing to people in the area for any information regarding these incidents.

"I am not ruling out the possibility that the incidents may be linked and may have been carried out by the same people.

"If anyone has any information, please do contact us. I would also urge people to be extra vigilant. If you see anything or anyone that appears a little suspicious or odd, then please contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Johnstone Police Station via 101, quoting reference number 2658. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be given anonymously.
