POLICE are investigating an attempted murder in a Renfrew street after a man was hospitalised with serious facial injuries.

The 37-year-old is fighting for his life after he was found in Wilson Street at around 1am on Sunday and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Following enquiries, police now believe the man was assaulted by another man.

Officers are now looking to speak to a man who was seen at around 12.20pm on Sunday walking from Houston Street, into Wilson Street and towards Renfrew Town Hall, who may be able to help with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Nathan Calderwood at Paisley CID said: “We now have information to suggest the 37-year-old man sustained his severe injuries after being assaulted by one man and it is vital we trace the person responsible.

“We previously appealed for three men who were seen standing outside the motorbike shop in Dunlop Street around this time to contact police and I can confirm that they have done so.

“I now would like to speak to a man who was seen around 12.20pm on Sunday, January 14, walking from Houston Street, into Wilson Street and towards Renfrew Town Hall.

"It is vital this man contacts police immediately as he may be able to provide crucial information that could assist our enquiries."
