MORE than 300 adult learners in Renfrewshire have been honoured for their achievements in adult learning at a top awards ceremony held recently in Paisley Town Hall. All the participants received certificates for completing courses and programmes organised by Renfrewshire Council's Adult Learning and Literacies Service.

The learning programmes have been delivered across Renfrewshire.

Over 1000 people successfully completed courses including personal and social development, literacy and numeracy, family learning and literacies, English for Speakers of other Languages, and basic ICT.

Councillor Jacqueline Henry, convener of Renfrewshire Council's Education Policy Board, attended the event and spoke to some of those receiving their certificates.

"It was inspiring to learn of the stories behind the achievements and successes of people in our adult learning programme," said Councillor Henry.

"You can see the positive difference that the participants' learning experiences and achievements have made to them, their families and their communities.

One of the big successes of the Adult Learning and Literacies Service programme has been The Pizza Reading Project which will be repeated next year after securing funding from Education Scotland.

The project enabled parents, grandparents or carers to support their children in reading and learning and was supported in a partnership with four local primary schools.

Councillor Henry continued: "A lot has been achieved this year and we are going to build on that success to help people and communities across Renfrewshire get the most out of the learning opportunities that are available."
