Olivia MacDonald will have the honour of turning on the tree lights when the annual festive event is held on Sunday, December 7.

The 12-year-old will also be joined by carol singers and the community when it kicks off at 6.20pm at Bishopton Community Centre.

Bishopton Community Centre Association and the parish church have organised the Christmas tree light switch on and community carol singing.

It will take place outdoors in the Community Centre’s car park, adjacent to the Christmas tree and mark the start of the church’s bi-centenary celebrations.

The carol singers will include children and adults from community organisations. Song sheets will be distributed for everyone else to join in. Hot ‘Fairtrade’ drinks will be available from the Community Centre.

In the event of bad weather, the carol singing will take place inside the Community Centre.

Iain Smeaton, chairman of Bishopton Community Centre Association said: “Bishopton Community Centre Association is delighted to be involved in organising the Christmas tree light switch on and community carol singing. It promises to be a good community event for all of the family.” Jack Watson, chairman of Bishopton Parish Church’s Bi-Centenary Committee also commented: “In 2015 Bishopton Parish Church will be celebrating their bi-centenary. The Christmas tree light ceremony and carol singing being held at Bishopton Community Centre will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to celebrate the oncoming season of goodwill and Christmas celebrations. Other events are being planned for the New Year.”
