A man has been arrested in connection with historic rape and sex offences in Bishopton following a probe by the FBI and Police Scotland.
The 65-year-old was arrested on Tuesday over an alleged rape and other sexual offences against females spanning a decade.
The offences are alleged to have occurred in the Renfrewshire village.
Police Scotland said in a statement: "On Tuesday, a 65-year-old man was arrested in connection with a rape and other serious sexual crimes on four females.
"This protracted enquiry, headed up by Detective Inspector Louise Harvie from the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde rape investigation unit, involved other law enforcement agencies including the FBI in America."
The man was expected to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today but was freed from custody by the procurator fiscal.
A Crown Office spokeswoman said: "The procurator fiscal at Paisley received a report concerning a 65-year-old man in connection with alleged incidents between January 1960 and December 1970."
