THERE was a great response from families as the emergency services staged a fun day in Howwood.

This is the second year that the Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders have hosted the event in partnership with the Bowfield Hotel.

A range of emergency services vehicles were on display and there was also a bouncy castle, barbecue and face painting.

Members of the Scottish Ambulance Service brought their vehicles along and some vintage fire engines proved popular.

The police, Coastguard and other services were also on hand to give visitors an idea of the work they do.

Ross Nelson and Stuart McLellan, of the Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders, co-ordinated the event and were delighted to see so many people there.

“We started running the fun day last year and this second event proved to be an even bigger success,” said Ross.

“The Bowfield Hotel kindly provided a bouncy castle and barbecue free of charge.

“There was plenty of fun for the entire family, with kids and adults alike getting involved in the day.”

The emergency services were also able to get an important safety message across, with the likes of a chip pan fire demonstration being staged.

Ross added: “The feedback was great. This wasn’t a fundraising event - it was all free and we had a great turnout.

“We are hoping to make it even bigger and better next year, with more vehicles.

“I’d like to thank everyone who participated and helped to make the day a success.”
