A VILLAGE church was filled with music as it hosted a fundraising concert featuring students from St Petersburg Conservatoire.

The show at St Machar’s Ranfurly Church, in Bridge of Weir, raised around £1,500 for the St Petersburg Forum, which aims to promote links on a charitable and educational basis between groups in Scotland and Northern Russia.

Among the talented musicians who performed at the concert were soprano singer Daria Trofimova and classical accordionist Alexander Kazakov, who are both students at the conservatoire.

Audience members also enjoyed a performance by Mikhail Pavlov, a professional opera baritone with a double masters degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Cameron and Zoe May flew the flag for Scotland as they performed on the bagpipes and snare drum, joining the Russian musicians on stage.

And the talented duo are now looking forward to accompanying the forum on its annual winter visit to St Petersburg next year.

Meanwhile, St Machar’s Ranfurly will be taking part in this year’s Doors Open Day programme, with the church open to the public on Saturday, September 2, from 10am until 4pm.
