TRADITIONAL Scottish weather greeted dozens of people who “gave it laldy” in tribute to national hero William Wallace.

Members of the Society of William Wallace marched through the streets flying the Saltires and Lion Rampant in his memory.

One of many highlights was tribal band Clann an Drumma who led the procession.

Secretary George Kempik said: “We only wish to do Wallace proud and hope everyone who attends feels fulfilled.

“There is a lot of work and planning involved but we can’t plan for the weather.

“We were concerned that the attendance for the march was down on last year but a great day and night was had by all who were there.

“The artists gave it all laldy.

“Thanks to everyone who assisted and gave their time.”

The march began at Ludovic Square in Johnstone before making its way to the Wallace Monument in Elderslie for a wreath laying ceremony.

An award was presented to Cha Halliday and Sean Donnelly in the evening celebration at Elderslie Village Hall for their work to save the Wallace Oak in Greenock which was on the brink of rotting into the ground.

The David R Ross award, given to the member of the year, went to George Thom for going above and beyond for the society.

The Clan An Drumma opened the night of entertainment before audiences enjoyed the Graham Brown Band and Brina.

Speeches were given by historical advisor Gordon Aitken, Dave Carney from Clann an Drumma and author Jean Brittain.
