Two people also suffered minor smoke inhalation when the fire ripped through the Rolls Royce factory in Inchinnan.

Fire crews and police attended the scene just after midday following reports of the blaze at the firm’s base in River Drive, near to Glasgow Airport.

The incident sparked concern from residents on social media sites after the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service warned locals to stay indoors as they battled to put out the blaze.

One Inchinnan resident, Sheila Davis, 39, said: “You could see the smoke right above the building.

“A lot of people posted on Facebook that we were to stay inside when it went on fire so it was a bit worrying.” A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said on Sunday: “There is no risk to nearby residents.” She added: “The fire was localised and contained to a specific area within the building and was subsequently extinguished.

“Two members of staff suffered smoke inhalation and upon further investigation no further treatment or hospitalisation was required. As a precaution, 70 members of staff were safely evacuated.”
